Personal Hygiene
Treating bad breath and maintaining fresh breath must be a normal part of one’s personal hygiene, just as bathing and controlling body-odor is.
A list of some personal hygiene procedures that one performs on a regular basis and that one considers a normal part of proper habits include: grooming, cutting hair, trimming nasal hair, trimming ear hair, shaping eye brows, removing body hair, waxing, clipping nails, manicure, pedicure, brushing teeth, flossing teeth, rinsing with mouthwash, etc.
Many believe that brushing, flossing and rinsing helps get rid of bad breath. That cannot be farther from the truth due to incorrect conventional conditioning.
Brushing teeth is for oral-hygiene not minimizing bad breath. The primary reason Dentists recommend brushing teeth is to remove plaque build up by applying the mechanical action of the bristles on your teeth. Toothpaste’s primary function is to introduce fluoride to your teeth and to strengthen the enamel. Although brushing teeth is for oral hygiene, most people brush to get the yucky taste of morning breath out of their mouth; not necessarily thinking about brushing for healthier teeth. Because they are hoping that the freshener in the toothpaste would take away the bad breath and bad taste they are experiencing; especially in the morning and after meals.
Dentists recommend brushing your teeth twice a day and visiting the dentist for professional cleaning on an average every six months. This is done to promote healthy teeth and good oral hygiene.
Achieving fresh breath is no different. A simple, home care process cannot eliminate bad breath. To bring bad breath under control, one must see an expert and address all factors that contribute to halitosis or bad breath.
The bacteria that cause bad breath live in areas of the mouth that are difficult to access and clean. This is why professional services are needed to attack these bacteria to access the areas that the bacteria reside in and to clean it. Once bad breath is brought under control, then the patient could maintain the results by simple home care. However, due to the bacterial root cause of bad breath, just as in cavities, regular maintenance procedures must be performed with varying frequency depending on a patient’s oral bacterial flora.
Dental care and bad breath care must go hand in hand. However, it is important to note that certain agents used in dental care such as toothpastes and mouthwashes can actually be bad for halitosis or bad breath.
At Bad Breath Institute™ we treat bad breath with our patent-pending Airigation™ method, created by our founder Dr. Vahé Ohanessian, and exclusively used by the professionals at Bad Breath Institute™.
Achieving fresh breath is a two step process. First one treats and controls bad breath, then one attempts to get fresh breath. One cannot get fresh breath without treating the underlying bad breath. To achieve effective, strong and long lasting fresh breath, one needs to first treat bad breath.
